Kaizer Chiefs defender Njabulo Ngcobo will put sentiment aside when he comes up against former club Swallows FC this weekend.
Chiefs are set to bring their 2021/22 DStv Premiership campaign to an end on Saturday when they play host to relegation-threatened Soweto rivals Swallows FC at the FNB Stadium.
For Amakhosi defender, Ngcobo, the tie is an opportunity for him to come up against his former employers, with whom he famously won the league's Defender of the Season award last term.
Speaking to his club's website, the 27-year-old revealed the respect he still holds for Swallows but insisted that his only focus was on earning his current side all three points.
"Swallows have been good for me, they’ve done everything they could for me to enjoy being in the top-flight," Ngcobo said.
"It's a tough game. They want three points, but we also want to keep the momentum we've been generating. We want to win games. It's going to be a good game, even though it won’t be easy for us.
A win for Chiefs on the final day could earn the club qualification to the CAF Champions League or CAF Confederation Cup, depending on results from elsewhere in the league.
"I won't focus on other teams, but for us so far so good, we have done everything right this week," Ngcobo added. "We need three points again so that when we come back next season, we can have a good start because if you finish well you feel the same way entering another season.
"I just hope we get maximum points and play good football as we have been doing. Other teams have their plans, but we need to focus on ours. If we can win this game, there might be a chance for us to play in a CAF competition, so I hope so."
