Hunt issues direct Zuma, Kambole plea

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Gavin Hunt has called for Dumisani Zuma and Lazarous Kambole to raise their game to offer him selection headaches.

The talented attacking duo have struggled for form this season while Zuma has missed several games with injury but grabbed an all-important assist for Khama Billiat's goal to dump Horoya out of the CAF Champions League.

Zuma has yet to find the net this campaign but has four assists to his name in the 12 appearances he's made but like Kambole, he's said to be on the way out of the club at the end of the season.

But with plenty of time to prove themselves in the league and cup games upcoming, before what's expected to be a squad overhaul, Hunt has issued a direct plea as Khama Billiat's return from injury offers more options up front.

"Our bench, we have to look at our bench going forward because we need people like Zuma and these guys to come in and help us, we can't just have people in the squad that's not helping us," he said.

"He has so much ability but he's got to have the mental attitude, he's one and everyone else [like] Lazarous Kambole. Khama [Billiat] is fit now so we can get used to him and then hopefully we can get Samir [Nurkovic] and [Leonardo] Castro back."

One player that has caught the eye of the former SuperSport United boss is 21-year-old midfielder Njabulo Blom, who's featured in 33 out of a possible 34 games across all competitions since Hunt's arrival.

His influence alongside playmaker Nkosingiphile Ngcobo (21) has been one of the biggest highlights of Hunt's tenure thus far and his praise for the academy graduate hints that he may remain an important player next season.

"I think Njabulo was again Man of the Match [against Horoya], he was outstanding, he's getting better and better every game, he'll be one for the future," Hunt admitted.

"He's got legs, he can play, he digs in and he's really... Jesus, unbelievable."

Chiefs could face Mamelodi Sundowns, Esperance de Tunis or Simba SC in the last-eight of the Champions League.
