Motaung: Why Chiefs let Thibedi go

Kaizer Chiefs Football Manager Bobby Motaung has clarified why the club opted to release Given Thibedi in a permanent move to Swallows FC.

The academy graduate developed into a firm fan-favourite with several impressive displays in the club's Diski Challenge team before two consecutive loan spells to their Soweto rivals.

Thibedi's recall at the end of the season was met with plenty of fanfare but has now returned to Swallows FC in a permanent transfer.

Motaung disclosed that the technical team decided against retaining the 23-year-old due to a lack of first-team opportunities.

"Thibedi is a good player and we are proud to say he is a product of our youth development academy," Motaung told the club's official website.

"We sat with the technical team and assessed the squad we have assembled this season, which includes nine new recruits.

"After evaluation, we reached the decision to put him on the market and Swallows showed interest, as he has done well for them in the past."
