Stellies respond to Du Preez, Chiefs links

Stellenbosch attacker Ashley du Preez is set to remain at the club amid links with a move to Kaizer Chiefs, club CEO Rob Benadie confirmed on Thursday.

The mercurial winger has been a standout player for Stellenbosch since winning the GladAfrica Championship and in their first two seasons in the South African top-flight.

His searing pace and ability to break defensive lines has garnered attention with Chiefs said to have identified the 24-year-old as a potential signing.

Benadie has moved to reaffirm that Du Preez remains an integral part of their plans for this season and beyond.

"Du Preez, he's one of our key assets, the way he plays, he's key to Steve's philosophy and how we want to play the game, so at this stage and for the foreseeable future, Ashley du Preez is a Stellenbosch Football Club player," Benadie said.

"We have got him secured, so unless my favourite club from overseas comes in for him I don't think he's going anywhere."

Du Preez has scored four goals and registered five assists in 39 games for Stellies since their promotion to the top-flight in 2019.
