Chiefs make decision on GK contract situation

Kaizer Chiefs have made a decision on the future of first-team goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi with the Nigerian's contract with the club to end at the end of the current season.

The Nigerian international is expected to be handed an added two-year deal by the Phefeni Glamour Boys, according to a source close to the club.

"Daniel Akpeyi's contract with Kaizer Chiefs is set to expire in June," the source reveals.

"The club is keen to hold onto him with a further two-year deal.

"Chiefs have huge faith in Akpeyi. Both parties are on the same page in terms of their commitment to extend the player's stay at the club.

"Also looking at Akpeyi's age, he might as well retire at Chiefs."

Kaizer Chiefs currently possess four first-team goalkeepers battling it out for a starting berth which iincludes Itumeleng Khune, Bruce Bvuma and Brandon Petersen alongside Akpeyi.
