Billiat boost as Chiefs eye revenge

An update has been issued on the status of a number of Kaizer Chiefs players ahead of their final fixture of the year against Maritzburg United this weekend.

Chiefs will travel back to KwaZulu-Natal to visit Maritzburg at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Sunday (15h30) as they look to avenge their Telkom Knockout semi-final exit from a few weeks back.

Amakhosi have had a couple of days to recuperate while the Team of Choice contested the Telkom Knockout final against Mamelodi Sundowns last weekend, which also afforded coach Ernst Middendorp a thorough stock take ahead of their year-end clash.

The likes of Reeve Frosler, Khama Billiat and Bernard Parker all spent some time on the side-lines last week, but some positive news has since come out of Naturena.

“We had some injuries after the Bloemfontein Celtic game, with Reeve having picked up a huge shoulder problem, but he started training for the first time on Tuesday. I can’t really say much more about it,” revealed Middendorp.

“We took Khama Billiat out after not being with us in Durban after the Stellenbosch game and he started training with the team too – we have to look into it.

“We also had to take Bernard Parker out because of irritation over several weeks with his ankle issues, and he started training on Tuesday as well. So, I have to look into it.”

There are also late assessments due to be done on academy graduates Nkosingiphile Ngcobo and Njabulo Blom, who featured in Chiefs under-21 side’s defeat to Polokwane City over the weekend.

“Another two players that we sent to the Multichoice Diski Challenge match came back on Tuesday – Ngcobo and Njabulo Blom – and we’ll get a bit more information,” added the German.
