Kaizer Chiefs are keeping a close eye on the situation of a promising local striker as the future of Leonardo Castro remains unclear.
Maritzburg United striker Bongokuhle Hlongwane has not seen much action this season due to what is believed to be contractual issues with the club.
The Pietermaritzburg-born goalscorer rose to prominence towards the end of last season after scoring crucial goals to help the Team of Choice survive relegation.
The 19-year-old was later drafted into the Bafana Bafana squad for CHAN but now the question is, what has happened to the player that showed such promise last season?
KickOff.com has gathered that Amakhosi have made enquiries with regards to the availability of Hlongwane and his potential signing in January.
"The boy has been frozen out at Maritzburg United. It's impossible that a player that showed such huge potential and helped Maritzburg survive relegation last season is now sitting on the stands," says a source.
"The club has just spent a lot of money to sign Jeremy Brockie. There are issues but the boy is scared to come out. Kaizer Chiefs have made enquiries and are interested in signing him."
Hlongwane is touted as a capable replacement for Leonardo Castro should the Colombian decide to leave Naturena next season.
