Chiefs equal 16-year unwanted record

Kaizer Chiefs have equalled an unwanted record following the club's heavy 4-1 DStv Premiership defeat to Royal AM over the weekend.

Stuart Baxter's charges suffered their second defeat of the 2021/22 league campaign on Saturday after being downed in emphatic style by a Victor Letsoalo-inspired Royal AM at the FNB Stadium.

The Bafana Bafana striker opened the scoring for the PSL newcomers in the 34th minute before doubling his side's lead just after the hour mark to leave the Amakhosi chasing the game.

Sifiso Hlanti pulled one back for the Soweto giants soon after but his effort proved to be in vain as a Sibusiso Mabiliso own goal and a late strike from Mfundo Thikazi consigned Chiefs to a heavy 4-1 defeat.

The scoreline saw Baxter's side equal an unwanted club record by conceding four times in a single league match for the first time in nearly 16 years, having last done so during a 4-2 loss to Silver Stars in November 2005.

On that occasion, Chiefs led twice through Louis Agyemang and Songwe Chalwe, either side of a Willem Jackson penalty, before a second-half brace from Katlego Mashego and a last-minute goal by Koketso Mmotong put the game to bed.
