South Africa only arrived back in the country on Saturday following a slight delay in their travel arrangements, yet all the Chiefs players are expected back at Naturena tomorrow morning.
Eric Mathoho, Reneilwe Letsholonyane, Mandla Masango, Bernard Parker and goalkeeper Brilliant Khuzwayo all took part in the Nations Cup in Equatorial Guinea, and will now have to quickly shift focus to club matters ahead of the second half of the 2014/15 season.
All five players enjoyed game-time in the continental showpiece. Despite being suspended for the opening encounter against Algeria due to suspension, Mathoho played the full 90 minutes in Bafana’s two remaining group stages games while Letsholonyane made two substitute appearances against Senegal and Ghana respectively.
Masango started just one game, South Africa’s last group match against Ghana, where he opened the scoring with a superb strike before Shakes Mashaba’s men succumbed to a 2-1 defeat. He also featured in his country’s opener against Algeria, coming on as a late substitute for Sibusiso Vilakazi.
Bernard Parker only played the last two group games in which he come on as a substitute on both occasions. Brilliant Khuzwayo was also given a run in Bafana’s last fixture against Ghana, conceding twice as Bafana crashed out of the tournament.
Following a training camp in Cape Town, Amakhosi will finalise their last week of preparations in Johannesburg ahead of the resumption of the League, with their first PSL encounter of 2015 away to Bloemfontein Celtic at the Free State Stadium on 11 February.
