Challenge laid down for PSL rising star


SuperSport United coach Kaitano Tembo has explained what he needs from exciting midfielder Sipho Mbule for him to become a true star in South Africa.

The Absa Premiership Player of the Month for November started the league match against AmaZulu in Durban on the bench as Tembo preferred Kudakwashe Mahachi ahead of him.

The South Africa under-23 star was also pulled off in the second half and replaced by Thamsanqa Gabuza in their previous match against Maritzburg United.

Tembo has urged the 21-year-old to play for the team and increase both his creating and scoring ratio.

"It's very important for our youngsters to understand how to play effective football. When I talk about effective football, I am talking about him creating opportunities and scoring goals," Tembo explained.

"If you click Ronaldo and Messi, what do you find? The first two things? Assists and goals.

"He is an attacking player who is very skilful. Sometimes it's good on the eye but it doesn't win us games. Thats the challenge.

"Our youngsters need to be taught that it's not only about entertainment, it's about winning games. That's very important. We are trying to help him on that so that he improves because he has so much potential."

Mbule has scored three goals so far this season and Tembo believes the youngster can still do more in terms of finding the back of the net this season.

"When the season started he was doing that. I think he scored three goals. He took the foot off the pedal a little bit in that area and we need him to focus on that. It's not about him on the field but being effective for the team."
