Former Maritimo striker Collins Mbesuma has backed his Zambian compatriot Justin Shonga for a transfer to the Portuguese side.

Last week the Chipolopolo striker's agent confirmed there is interest in the Orlando Pirates star from the Primeira Liga team.

In 2006 Mbesuma had a short stint on loan with Maritimo from Portsmouth, who were in the English Premier League back then.

"Ja it will be a good move I think. Ja, I think so," Mbesuma tells KickOff.com.

"The club they have nice people but mostly the Brazilian players they play there. When I was there like half of the team were Brazilian people.

"And you know what Brazilians can do, they are good you know like in soccer, you can put it like that. So there's a lot of competition.

"It's not a team where you can go and get relaxed. There's a lot of competition. They can never even be on top there.

"But ja the team is very well known so I think it can be a good move for him. It's just about working hard in football, there's no shortcuts.
