Luck has not been on our side - Molangoane

AmaKhosi have ended a second season in a row with nothing to show for their efforts, a hard pill to swallow for Molangoane who joined the club with the hope of winning trophies as per the tradition at Naturena.

Since making his debut against his former club Chippa United at the beginning of December he has been involved in 20 of the 21 games that Chiefs have played in all competitions since then with four goals to his name and has a credible voice in making an assessment.

“Some games we played well but were unlucky and in other games we made mistakes and conceded goals that we shouldn’t have and missed chances that we should have scored. So I just think luck was mostly not on our side but I think next year we will achieve what we want through hard work,” he reasons.

‘Tight’ also feels fingers shouldn’t just be directed at Steve Komphela when the review is done.

“To be honest it has been great for me here at Chiefs but the problem is that we were unlucky and I will have wished that we were the ones lifting the trophy on Saturday," says the pint-sized midfielder.

"Unfortunately things didn’t go our way. This is not only about the coach but everyone else in the team. If the coach is under pressure us as players we are under pressure as well  because we have to deliver for the team. We have to go back to the drawing board so that we rectify where we went wrong."

He also admits that while it hasn’t been the best feeling to wrap up the season this way the game against Bidvest Wits on Saturday remains important in shaping the future.

“It is my first season here at the club and knowing the club we always want to achieve big things so it will not end nice knowing that this is a team used to winning trophies," says Molangoane.

"Obviously it is not a nice feeling for us players and the team not to have something in our cabinet. However, when playing for Chiefs every game is a cup final and you must always bring your A game because you will never know what will happen going forward especially knowing that new players will be brought in. So playing your heart out in every game is important because you never know where you will go when the season finishes."
