Jomo ‘happy with a point’

Ezenkhosi had goalkeeper Sherwin Naicker to thank for keeping them in the match after a host of fine saves in the opening half, yet soon found their stride in the second stanza with a number of chances in front of goal.

However, neither sides’ defences were breached after the 90 minutes as a point was shared between the two NFD counterparts.

Having come off the back of an impressive 4-1 win over Moroka Swallows, Cosmos’ confidence was running high ahead of Wednesday’s clash, yet Sono insisted the match was a totally different affair, having suffered a 2-0 defeat to the very same opponents in the reverse fixture.

“As I’ve said before, no two games are the same, and no teams are the same,” Sono said after the game. “This is Black Leopards, the other one was Swallows, and their system was different. We had to make sure they did not get a goal early because every time they play against us, they score a goal early and look like they can play.”

Sono insisted he was happy with a point that keeps his side at the top of the mini-standings, with both his side and Leopards still to face Moroka Swallows again to determine whether or not they will be in South Africa’s top-flight next season.

“They [Leopards] had a week’s rest, and we will also now have a week’s rest which is good for us, but we are still in it and are happy with a point,” he said. “It’s now up to them [Leopards] how they will play against Swallows, and it’s up to us how we play against Swallows.”
