Tlale: Pirates will beat Sundowns

Former Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates goalkeeper John Tlale believes The Buccaneers will have the upper hand in Wednesday's big Absa Premiership encounter.

Pirates and Sundowns will be looking to come out of Orlando Stadium with no less than three points as the gap between them and log leaders Kaizer Chiefs keeps on widening.

"Eish, what a difficult one, but the way I see things I think Pirates have got an edge," Tlale tells

"They've got the edge because now Sundowns are going to be affected by these [CAF] games that they've been playing. They play too much and they travel a lot now. I think it's going to give them [Pirates] a bit of an advantage on that.

"Ja it's very important [three points] for the fact that you know... Pirates have been struggling before they got a new coach, and now it's for them just to fight to be in the top four. It will be okay if they are in the top three, as you know that Pirates is a big team.

"For Sundowns it will be very important for them because they want to catch up, want to close the gap you know, and now the pressure is going to mount on them, for the fact that they play the African games and they play at home.

"So it's going to catch up with them... the bodies of the guys as they play week in and out. So it's going to have a factor on the players.

"Ja it's going to be a big blow for the fact that the games are about to come to an end now you see."

Tlale believes Chiefs still have the advantage in the title race.

"I think that Chiefs will just have to make their math, to make sure that if maybe out of 13 games that are remaining if they win nine or ten of them you know, they will know that the league is in their hands," he adds.

"Because at the end of the day Sundowns is still going to draw some of the games, they are still going to lose some of the games. So they [Chiefs] already have points in the bag and that is going to give them an advantage."
