'Hunt's energised Chiefs will beat Downs'

Former Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Jabulani Mendu believes Amakhosi will have it easy against the defending champions this weekend.

The two giants will square up for three points at FNB Stadium on Saturday (15h30) in the opening match of the much-anticipated new DStv Premiership season.

Mendu suggests that at the moment the treble winners are confused by the new coaching structure after losing their first game in the MTN8.

"You know what is interesting about this whole thing is, at Sundowns we are confused who is coaching. At Chiefs we are confused who is going to start or who is going to play because we don't really know what is happening," Mendu tells KickOff.com.

"Sundowns, not taking anything from the three coaches but I think it's going to be more of adaptation to say, 'There's that father that is missing.' You know in a home when a father is not around or at work, children do as they please.

"I think they are missing someone who can put his foot down. Someone to say, 'I'm in charge, you will listen to what I'm saying!' I think that's the problem at Sundowns at this point. I think that's why they played like they were lazy, combination play, those killer passes, those diagonal passes from [Hlompho] Kekana.

"But watching Kaizer Chiefs their second-half performance [against Maritzburg United] was [more] convincing than their first half.

"I know you won't believe me, but I'm going to give this one to Kaizer Chiefs man. I mean how was [Bernard] Parker's performance? Parker wants to play. That's what Gavin [Hunt] brings to a team. Gavin will reignite your energy. Parker has more energy.

"I can't wait for [Willard] Katsande to come back, I can't wait for [Erick] Mathoho to come back... if he has the likes of [Lebogang] Manyama you will see a different energy. I didn't see that energy in Sundowns, that's why I'm saying I'm going to give it to Chiefs."

Chiefs remain without strikers Samir Nurkovic and Leonardo Castro, who are both out injured.
