Khune snubbed UAE club for Chiefs

KickOff.com has gathered that goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune turned down a lucrative deal from United Arab Emirates side Shabab Al-Ahli in favour of Kaizer Chiefs.

Chiefs on Tuesday confirmed that Khune has put pen to paper on a new two-year deal, putting an end to any speculation about his future at Naturena.

It is understood the Bafana Bafana star signing with the Glamour Boys comes soon after he turned down a lucrative offer from Al-Ahli.

The 34-year-old is said to have been offered a three-year deal with the Dubai-based club that was going to see him earning more than double the package he was on last season.

According to a source close to the deal, Khune had already done a medical assessment to pave the way for his move to join Al-Ahli this coming season.

"The deal was almost done. All the requirements for him to move to the UAE had been completed," says the source.

"They rate him so highly and they were looking forward to having him as their number one keeper this coming season."

Khune will be competing with Daniel Akpeyi, Brandon Peterson and Bruce Bvuma for the number one jersey in Naturena this coming season.
