Kaizer Chiefs captain Itumeleng Khune has a message for the club’s supporters as they look to go all the way to lifting their first trophy in over five years.
The highly anticipated resumption of the 2019/20 season means the Absa Premiership title race is finally set to reach its climax in the coming weeks.
Chiefs hold a four-point lead at the summit of the log table over second-placed Mamelodi Sundowns, who have a game in hand, while the likes of Orlando Pirates, SuperSport United, Maritzburg United and Bidvest Wits could still sneak into the race.
One pitfall for the ‘big three’ is that they will have to run the remaining distance without the presence of their supporters, due to the Covid-19 restrictions in stadiums.
Khune, however, is adamant their focus remains making the Amakhosi faithful proud and has vowed not to cross the finish line in a disappointing fashion.
“You are the driving force behind this team and we will miss you cheering us up when the league restarts,” Khune told Chiefs’ official website.
“However, we still want to make you proud and you will be that pillar of strength for us. We are at present in the number one spot and we don’t want to disappoint you when we go past the finish line.”
