Khune dropped from Chiefs squad

Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed their travelling squad for their CAF Champions League trip to face Primeiro de Agosto, with captain Itumeleng Khune left out.

Khune is among the notable absentees left behind as Chiefs travelled to Luanda on Sunday for their Champions League first round second-leg clash scheduled for Tuesday evening (17h00 SA time).

Amakhosi jetted out of OR Tambo International Airport on Sunday with an 18-man squad as they look to secure a place in the competition's group stage for the first time in the club's history.

'Itu' started the season as new coach Gavin Hunt's first-choice shotstopper but saw himself dropped from the line-up after back-to-back blunders in December.

The 33-year-old has since watched his side's last two league matches from the bench, and will this time miss out altogether after being omitted from the matchday squad.

Meanwhile, a huge boost for the Glamour Boys' hopes of obtaining a crucial result in Angola is that striker Samir Nurkovic has cracked the nod from the technical team after missing the first three months of the season due to injury and internal issues.

The current aggregate score of 0-0 means Chiefs will need to either win or record a scoring draw in order to advance on the away-goals rule. Alternatively, if the match ends goalless again, a penalty shootout will decide the winner.

Chiefs' full squad:

Bruce Bvuma, Daniel Akpeyi, Erick Mathoho, Rama Mphahlele, Daniel Cardoso, Siya Ngezana, Philani Zulu, Kgotso Moleko, Darrel Matsheke, Happy Mashiane, Nkosi Ngcobo, Njabulo Blom, Bernard Parker, Leonardo Castro, Lazarous Kambole, Samir Nurkovic, Dumisani Zuma, Khama Billiat
