How Akpeyi can bounce back

Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Nhlanhla Kubheka has explained how Daniel Akpeyi can avoid another Soweto Derby humiliation against Orlando Pirates.

In the first leg of the MTN8 semi-final, the Nigerian shot-stopper conceded three goals against Pirates before letting two more goals in the second leg seven days later.

But according to the club's former top defender Nhlanhla 'Rhoo' Kubheka, there is still a chance for the Nigerian international to become a Soweto Derby hero again if he can communicate with his defenders.

"I don't think Daniel Akpeyi needs motivation," Kubheka tells

"To play a derby is a huge game, and each and every player if playing for an opposition, whether it's Kaizer Chiefs or Orlando Pirates they are always motivated. It's a matter of preparing yourself well for the game in terms of psychological awareness. What I used to do before a derby I would go for a massage in terms of technique and all that.

"You need to take the responsibility to tell yourself that you need to do well. What's important also is his organisation with the players his playing with, because he was exposed (by those players) at the end of the day.

"The coach needs to assist them in terms of having a very solid defensive structure. And also he constantly needs to communicate with them so that he can be able to defend himself because, the best way not to be humiliated as a keeper is to have an effective communication. So in regard I think Akpeyi need to communicate effectively with his defenders.

"I think tactically that's very key. Now I'm just making an example, why we became the best defensive team during my time it's because Brian (Baloyi) used to communicate with us, give directions, alert us that there is danger somewhere. So that is why he became the best goalkeeper you know."
