Cape Town City are assessing the possibility of signing former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Hendrick Ekstein.
The 28-year-old was recently shown the door at Naturena after asking for more money to renew his contract, before it was terminated by the club.
Citizens head coach Benni McCarthy is said to be a huge admirer of the Bekkersdal-born star but there are a few things that need to be ironed out before he can bring the midfielder to Cape Town.
"He was offered to us you know," City assistant coach Vasili Manousakis reveals to KickOff.com.
"The coach knows about it and we have something to explore. He is a decent player, but we don't know if we have the ability to land him, we don't know what the player's contactual demands are.
"So it's something that's been mentioned, it's on the radar. But you know if we don't get him it's okay, if we do get him... but it's just been a discussion, that's all it's been. I'm saying it will depend on the coach.
"The coach likes the boy but it will depend on what his demands are, what his package is, his salary, what is he expecting. You've got to look at all those things... why he didn't renew at Chiefs...
"So ja it is a name that's come up and I'm sure it's something that the coach and the chairman will discuss in the next few weeks."
Ekstein played 27 matches in all competitions for Chiefs in the 2018/19 season and scored five goals, and looked improved under the mentorship of Ernst Middendorp.
