Jele's mysterious absence explained

Premiership

Orlando Pirates captain Happy Jele has been absent from the squad for their last two matches and an explanation has now been given.

Jele has not featured on the pitch for Pirates since their 1-0 DStv Premiership win over Bloemfontein Celtic on November 4, having been reduced to the bench until his complete omission from the recent MTN8 final.

The 33-year-old's absence from the pre-final press conference was explained to have been due to illness, while Zinnbauer also wished him a speedy recovery after Saturday's triumph in Durban.

After missing out again on Wednesday's victory over Chippa United, the German tactician offered further explanation as to his mysterious illness.

"I'm no doctor. I have contact with him [Jele] but I don't ask him what's happened. He said to me, he's sick. He was in a training session [before] and he came and said, 'Coach, I'm not feeling good.'

"So, I said, 'Go to the doctor', and the doctor said he has to go home, and then the next day he was sick. I don't know, I don't have 100 percent of the information but I think it's normal flu that he has."

With a resurgence of Covid-19 leading to stricter lockdown measures across the country and infections on the rise, no new cases have been reported by PSL clubs in recent weeks.
