Domingo breaks silence on Sundowns


Bidvest Wits midfielder Haashim Domingo has opened up to about his proposed move to Mamelodi Sundowns.

Domingo is amongst the players set to leave Wits at the end of the season after the club was sold to Limpopo businessman Lawrence Mulaudzi.

24-year-old Domingo is valued at R9.2-million according to – see where that places him amongst an estimated R50-million worth of reported new Sundowns signings!

Other players set to leave The Students at the end of the season are Thulani Hlatshwayo, Deon Hotto, Thabang Monare, Gift Motupa and Ricardo Goss.

"Until Sundowns have gone public I cant say anything to that," Domingo tells when asked about his move to The Brazilians.

"I can't say anything to that. Until Sundowns come [and confirm the transfer] I can't say anything to that. It's football – anything can happen. I can't say anything because you know... you and I know how football is. Things can change at any moment."

Wits have reportedly already told their youngsters at the academy to collect their paperwork, including their travel documents, following the club's sale to TTM.

Domingo feels sad for the youngsters at the Bidvest Wits academy, which has produced many great players including Junaid Hartley, Stanton Fredericks, Lovers Mohlala, Bradley Carnell and Benson Mhlongo.

"I think apart from everything that has happened with the club being sold, Wits has lots of quality. I feel the academy is going to feel it the most, they are going to hurt the most," Domingo says.

"Which academy are they going to go to that's as good as Wits? I feel for the youngsters, the academy boys, the boys that came up to the first team."

Domingo himself is a product of the Ajax Cape Town academy but was released on bad terms in 2015 after a protracted contract dispute that even went to court.

He joined Portuguese side Vitoria Guimaraes, where he became a regular for the club's reserve team before Wits snapped him up at the start of the 2018/19 season.
