The Venezuelan struck an injury-time winner as the Glamour Boys edged champions Bidvest Wits 1-0 in the last game of the season, securing themselves a top four finish in the 2016/17 campaign.
Yet man-of-the-match Paez is aware that fourth is not good enough for Amakhosi as he targets top spot with the Soweto club next year.
"For me I'm very happy for the man of the match award, but we know Kaizer Chiefs is number one in the country so now I'm thinking about next season,” he told SuperSport after the game. “We must get the first position next season - that's what I'm thinking now.”
Paez admitted it was hard to see the Clever Boys celebrating title victory on their home turf, but hopes it will be his side doing the same at the end of next season.
"For me it's not good for another team to come into our home to receive the cup,” he said.
"But thanks to the club and the coach for giving me the opportunity to play 90 minutes today. I'm happy we got the three points. We have to look forward to next season."
