Sundowns' third signing finally confirmed

Premiership

Grant Margeman tells KickOff.com he is looking forward to playing alongside George Maluleka at Mamelodi Sundowns next season.

Sundowns' signing of Margeman is no secret anymore having tracked the player for a couple of seasons before sealing a deal for him at the start of the season.

The 21-year-old is now also speaking openly about playing for Sundowns next season, which means the mystery about who Pitso Mosimane's three new signings are for next season appears to be solved.

It is understood that Sundowns signed both goalkeeper Jody February and Margeman last September before loaning the pair out for the 2019/20 season, without officially announcing their acquisition.

February is at Cape Umoya United while Margeman has been in outstanding form during Ajax Cape Town's promotion push, much like Keagan Dolly when he was signed by Sundowns and then loaned back to the Urban Warriors for a season.

Margeman will move to Chloorkop at the end of the current campaign and does not see Maluleka's arrival from Kaizer Chiefs as a stumbling block.

"I think he's a fantastic player you know. George has been long in the game. He has a lot of qualities and it's going to be good playing with him," Margeman tells KickOff.com.

"For myself it's just to go there and show my quality and ability to the coach you know. Even though it can be more difficult, more competition, I think that's going to motivate me to keep on giving my best and to show that I want to be part of the team.

"Sundowns you know, they always sign a lot of quality players but for me it's not about what the club sign. I have no control over that. It's just for me to go there and do my job. Ja, I would like to see what happens when the time comes."

Pitso Mosimane already has Hlompho Kekana, Andile Jali, Tiyani Mabunda, Oupa Manyisa, Sammy Seabi and Lucky Mohomi in the middle of the park.

Margeman says even though his spell with the Urban Warriors officially ends in June, he would not mind staying with the club until the 2019/20 season is completed, whenever that is.

There is a possibility of the current campaign being extended beyond the month of June due to the coronavirus outbreak and 21-day national lockdown in South Africa.

"I think I will accept it, but I think also there may be something with clubs you know where they will say if the league finishes later in the year, I think contracts will also be extended now until the season is done," he adds.

"Come up with a plan you know where the contract will be extended until the league finishes.

"Ja I think it's a bit disappointing you know [the football suspension], especially for footballers, but now we have to make sure that we stay safe first, stay healthy and make sure that everyone around us is safe.

"And also with the contracts I'm not sure what's going to happen. But for now my main focus is just to stay healthy and stay safe."
