Maluleka: Why Downs are on top

Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder George Maluleka has offered some insight as to why they are once again on course to defend their league title.

Sundowns are gunning to make it four in a row as they sit top of the DStv Premiership table, equal on points with rivals SuperSport United and Swallows FC.

The Brazilians, despite having undergone major changes within their technical team, have maintained the standard that has set the club apart from the rest of the PSL over the past three years.

Having only recently joined from Kaizer Chiefs, Maluleka has explained what has them ticking in order to be in pole position after 13 rounds of fixtures.

"We’re on top for a reason and that’s because the competition starts at training," Mido told the club's website.

"Because everyone wants to play and that just elevates the team to do well, and it goes in our favour as Mamelodi Sundowns when we face opponents."

The 32-year-old further added that while he is still acclimatising since arriving in July last year, he is content with his contribution in four starts and four substitute appearances thus far.

"I think I’ve done pretty well every time I’ve been called up to do my duties. The main goal is to be in the starting eleven more frequently and staying injury-free so I can contribute to the team's success," he stated.

"I am happy with my contribution so far and I can only build from here on to the upcoming games and the rest of the season."
