Kaizer Chiefs coach Gavin Hunt has provided an update on the state of striker Samir Nurkovic as fans eagerly await his full return.
Nurkovic has finally returned to Chiefs' squad after missing their first 14 games of the season, and recently got his first minutes in the CAF Champions League and DStv Premiership.
The Serbian attacker had been out since September after undergoing groin surgery, while a further delay in his return was due to protracted contract renegotiations, which were eventually concluded in December.
With the Amakhosi faithful eagerly anticipating the contribution of their top scorer from last season as they look to escape the dreaded relegation dogfight this time around, Hunt has explained that the 28-year-old is still way off the pace in terms of his fitness.
"He's nowhere near fit, but we've got to get him fit. As I say, we're playing every two or three days," said Hunt after 'Kokota' featured in the 2-0 defeat to Maritzburg United.
"So there's not much time to train because then we've got a game on Saturday again. We've got to get him fit."
With Khama Billiat ruled out for two months and Leonardo Castro also absent with a minor stomach injury, Nurkovic is expected to lead the attack when Chiefs next take on AmaZulu at Kings Park Stadium on Wednesday afternoon (15h00 kick-off).
