Call are growing louder for Kaizer Chiefs to appoint Gavin Hunt as reports pick up steam regarding the club's pursuit of the four-time PSL winner.
Reports surfaced this weekend claiming Hunt is close to concluding a deal to coach Chiefs next season, with Doctor Khumalo and Kwanele Kopo said to be earmarked as assistants.
But just as Hunt told KickOff.com earlier this week, the four-time Absa Premiership winner again denied contact with Chiefs while he enjoys his holiday in Plettenberg Bay.
EXCLUSIVE: Hunt claims no contact with Chiefs
Hunt's denials have done nothing to stop the rumour mill from churning, with many Glamour Boys supporters apparently keen for the club to bring in a proven local coach for a change.
"Supporters must be respected. Ernst Middendorp was give a second chance and didn't deliver. I think it's time they give Gavin Hunt a chance as he is now available," says former midfielder Ntokozo Sikhakhane.
"He has proven to be a winner, from all the teams he has coached. He knows the players and I'm sure he will get the support he needs from everyone associated with the team. It's about time he coaches a big team."
Sikhakhane believes Chiefs need a coach who can not only bring the league title but also traverse the challenges of the CAF Champions League.
"They are going to Africa now, so for them to do well and get that star like other big teams, they need someone who understands South African football," he adds. "Hunt is that coach. Give him a chance and heal millions of broken hearts."
Several coaches have indicated their availability for the vacant position including Ruud Krol and Kosta Papic, with Chiefs understood to have also reached out to their last league winner Stuart Baxter.
