Hunt lures Pirates defender to Chippa

Orlando Pirates defender Sandile Mthethwa has completed his return to Chippa United for the 2021/22 DStv Premiership season.

Chippa United confirmed on Thursday that the club has retained the services of the 24-year-old centre-back who had spent the previous two seasons on loan in Gqeberha from the Buccaneers.

"We're delighted to announce that Sandile Mthethwa has rejoined the Club from Orlando Pirates," the Chilli Boys said in an official announcement.

Mthethwa previously made 38 appearances in all competitions across his two spells with Chippa United, scoring three times, and is said to be highly rated by the club's coach, Gavin Hunt.

"The Club is looking to do better than previous seasons. Sandile Mthethwa comes highly rated by current Chilli Boys coach Gavin Hunt," the statement continued.

"Sandile Mthethwa is a great addition to our current squad, a top defender, hugely popular & puts his heart and soul into every game. It is so good to have him back."

His departure comes just hours after Pirates confirmed the signing of Olisa Ndah from Nigerian Premier League champions Akwa United.
