Kaizer Chiefs coach Gavin Hunt has commented on the prolonged absence of club captain and former first-choice goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune.
Khune has yet to feature for Chiefs in 2021 and, in fact, has not been part of the match-day squad for the side's last six games in all competitions.
The 33-year-old, who has conceded 10 goals in five DStv Premiership games this season, last played in Amakhosi's 2-1 defeat to SuperSport United on 15 December last year.
He has since been sidelined, with Daniel Akpeyi cementing his position as Hunt's first-choice while Bruce Bvuma deputises, and Hunt has now answered for the club's longest-serving member's omission.
"I thought Daniel was excellent today, I thought he was fantastic and he swept well. So, there's a lot of competition and people need to work hard to get back in the team," said Hunt when asked of Khune's whereabouts after Saturday's 0-0 draw with Stellenbosch FC.
Another Chiefs veteran Willard Katsande has also been dropped from the squad since his last appearance against Primeiro de Agosto in the CAF Champions League in December.
The former Bidvest Wits and SuperSport United mentor has since handed the captain's armband to Ramahlwe Mphahlele and Bernard Parker, with Samir Nurkovic most recently leading the side this weekend.
