Up close as Chiefs stumble at the top

Premiership

Enjoy a gallery from FNB Stadium, where Kaizer Chiefs were pegged back in their Absa Premiership title charge by hoodoo team Maritzburg United.

Chiefs were sucker punched by Maritzburg as they conceded two quick-fire goal in less than two minutes to suffer a 2-1 loss on Saturday evening.

It was only Amakhosi's third defeat this season, with Polokwane City and SuperSport United the only two sides to have previously denied them points.

The loss, however, saw them lose ground at the top of the table after Mamelodi Sundowns moved to within seven points after their victory earlier in the day.

Ernst Middendorp brought back Daniel Akpeyi ahead of Itumeleng Khune, but the Nigerian made a huge blunder in the 65th minute allowing Daylon Claasen to tap into an empty net before completing his brace a few second later.

Samir Nurkovic pulled one back in the final 15 minutes of the match, bagging his 11th goal of the season, but it wasn't to be for the Soweto giants as they failed to get the better of Richard Ofori.
