Orlando Pirates forward Gabadinho Mhango has commented on one of his personal drawbacks and is confident of competing for this season's Golden Boot award.
Mhango has shot up the scoring charts in recent weeks, having scored 10 goals in 14 Absa Premiership appearances this season – six of which have come in his last three starts.
The Malawian international has previously shown similar sort of form during his first season with Bidvest Wits in 2016/17 as well as upon his arrival at Bloemfontein Celtic in 2013/14.
Somehow, he then seems to fade in parts of the season and continue a decline in subsequent seasons, but the 27-year-old is adamant he is in a better situation both on and off the field with The Buccaneers.
“I think there are many things that happen in life, and that sometimes affects your football. Sometimes you perform and sometimes you don’t,” said Mhango.
“But I think for now, credit must go to the players I’m playing with, they encourage and keep pushing me, as well as the coaches and technical staff at Pirates.
“So, for now, everything is going well and we’re trying to give our best as a team, and the same goes for me as a player.”
In as far as his personal target is concerned, ‘Gaba’ is currently the front-runner in the race for the top goal scorer gong at the end of the season and has set his sights on surpassing the 15-goal mark by May.
“For top goal scorer, my target was to reach above 15 goals at the beginning of the season. I still hope I can achieve that,” he added.
