The 2018 Nedbank champions recently lost 2-1 to log leaders Bidvest Wits leaving them 14th on the log with 13 points, two points away from bottom-placed Maritzburg.
Rodgers, who joined Ea Lla Koto at the beginning of the season from Wits, believes they can turn the corner against the Team of Choice at Harry Gwala Stadium tonight (19h30).
"With all respect to Maritzburg, we have no choice but we have to go there to fight for three points," Rodgers tells KickOff.com.
"It will be difficult to achieve it but we have the ability to do it. Of course we cannot determine the outcome yet, but we will do all we can to win the match."
Stars have managed just three wins and lost nine times in the 16 games that they have played so far, something that doesn't sit well with the lanky forward. But he hopes things will improve under new head coach Nikola Kavazovic, who recently replaced Luc Eymael.
"That is not a very impressive run of form and yes it was frustrating. As a team we are now working to change that and based on our last game I believe we were very unlucky not to get three points. As they say, that's football for you. Overall we were very happy with our performance and it is positive apart from the results. We will build on that and improve every game, no doubt we will bounce back. I'm praying our fortunes will change going forward."
Rodgers says Kavazovic works well with the players.
"I don't compare the two coaches. Of course, all coaches are different and good in their specific ways. But coach Kavazovic has a good way of working with the players. He makes everything simple and easy to understand but not without action. As players we need to apply all that is required and I must say as a team we are responding very well and continue to grow. It's still early since the new coach arrived, but we are working hard and well together in order to play well and get positive results."
