Orlando Pirates have endured an early-season slump after starting the season off brightly, but one new signing is adamant they can still climb to the top of the log.
Fortune Makaringe’s joy of joining the Soweto giants has been short-lived, having yet to experience a victory since making his competitive debut for the club.
Having arrived on the back of Pirates’ promising 2018/19 campaign, during which he nearly faced relegation with Maritzburg United, the midfield workhorse has had to reflect on the road they have endured thus far as they occupy 10th position on the Absa Premiership table.
“I knew very well [when] coming here that to play for Orlando Pirates comes with a lot of expectations. There are too may Buccaneers around the continent that follow this team and always look to us to give good results,” said Makaringe on the club’s official app.
“So, knowing very well that the guys have done very well [in the past], we’re still going to do well; the performances have been coming, we’ve just been unfortunate.
“So, that is a positive for us and it’s something that we need to take into account in order to push ourselves and to give good results.
“The team has been going through a very difficult phase and that has been very tough, but every team goes through such phases and it’s something we have to endure and work on.
“The Buccaneers are still going to be happy; The Buccaneers are meant to be happy, so we’re still going to go as far as making sure that we give good results to finish right there on top.”
