Maela has made a good impression since the start of the season at Mayfair, playing in all three Absa Premiership matches thus far.
The former Thanda Royal Zulu captain looks set to feature again when Bucs take on Maritzburg United in a top-of-the-table clash at Harry Gwala Stadium on Friday night (20h00).
Netshiozwi is confident Maela will shine at Pirates.
"He reminds me of myself during the time whilst at Pirates – cool, calm and collected," Netshiozwi tells KickOff.com.
"I don’t know him personally but you can see he does not talk too much. He does the talking with his performances on the field. You can see he is working hard and willing to learn," he adds.
The former Bucs defender has, however, warned Maela to remain level-headed if he wants to succeed at Pirates.
"You can see that he has a big heart. He must continue to work hard, listen and remain level-headed," says Netshiozwi.
Netshiozwi, meanwhile, is confident Pirates coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic will do well this season. Pirates are second on the table with seven points from three games and are yet to lose.
"I worked under Micho. He is a great coach and a good motivator. You saw against Ajax the team is no longer running slowly. The players want to work hard. When one player makes a mistake they encourage each other, [which is] something that was missing last season."
