With speculation rife that Jali could be returning to Pirates upon the expiry of his contract with Belgian side KV Oostende, it remains to be seen just where he will end up.
The 27-year-old left the Buccaneers midway through the 2014/15 season, after helping the club to back-to-back trebles as well as the 2013 CAF Champions League final, which they lost to Al Ahly.
Jali has been heavily linked with both Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns, but when asked for his thoughts on the Bafana Bafana anchorman’s future, Peruvian tactician Palacios appeared reluctant to share his thoughts and instead reminisced of his combination with Manyisa, who is now a Brazilian.
“Jali is a great player. I’ll be honest with you, not to offend anyone but, in my time Jali and Oupa Manyisa was the best midfield combination, there are no comparisons,” Palacios told KickOff.com.
“I’ll be honest, Jali and Oupa were something else, and I’m grateful to have worked with these two great players.”
“I don’t know [about his next move]. If he comes back, it would be a great bonus because he’s a great player. But it also depends why he wants to come back.
“Sometimes it’s the coach not playing you, or if you feel the level is too high, there’s many factors. But, what I can say is that Andile is a great player.”
Bringing Manyisa into the equation perhaps stirs more questions on whether Palacios knows something and could be hinting at a possible reunion of the duo.
