Mathebula shares advice to Chiefs' Mdu Shabalala

A former Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana star has shared crucial advice to recently promoted academy star Mduduzi Shabalala since his promotion to the first team.

David Mathebula, who played for played Kaizer Chiefs between 2004 and 2011 says attacker Mduduzi Shabalala must stick to his game in order to be a success at Naturena.

"The most important thing is for him to continue playing the way he does, with his own style," Mathebula told KickOff.

The 18-year-old starlet contributed 13 goals and 15 assists for AmaKhosi reserves in the DStv Diski Challenge. An output that earned him a Player of the Season nomination and both the Player of the year and Leading Goal Scorer awards for Kaizer Chiefs. The club have rewarded his efforts with a three-year deal promoting him to the senior team.

"He’s [Shabalala] a player that likes to entertain and has the skills to do it, but the great thing is that he also produces great numbers. He’s been promoted because of his performances in the reserves so he has to continue that and be fearless," added Mathebula.

The former Kaizer Chiefs man also says it's up to the technical team to provide Shabalala with the platform to express himself.

"I hope he’s given freedom," Mathebula said.

"I trust the technical team at the club and I trust that they’ve promoted him with a plan in mind. It’s important that they give him the freedom to express himself. He has the potential to be a superstar and huge asset to the club."
