Mamelodi Sundowns have confirmed that the players who were at the Africa Cup of Nations will get some time off.
The players who were in the Bafana Bafana squad – Hlompho Kekana, Tiyani Mabunda, Sibusiso Vilakazi, Themba Zwane and Lebohang Maboe – will get at least two weeks off before joining the team ahead of the 2019/20 campaign. Hard working midfielder Mabunda was the only player who did not get any action during the AFCON in Egypt.
Sundowns are currently in Mpumalanga for pre-season camp and they will soon be making trips to Botswana and DR Congo for the next phase.
A statement on the Sundowns website reads as follows: “These five Downs players have been with the national team since June 3 and did not have a an adequate pre-season break. In managing their load, the club has agreed to give them rest to refresh and recuperate before our opening game of the 2019/20 season, which is scheduled for August 3.”
