A former Mamelodi Sundowns player has made a bold prediction regarding the current gulf in quality between the Brazilians and rivals Kaizer Chiefs.
After making numerous signings since the lifting of a FIFA imposed transfer ban, Kaizer Chiefs are expected to once again challenge for titles.
Chiefs have brought in top talent such as Keagan Dolly, Njabulo Ngcobo, Sibusiso Mabiliso, Sifiso Hlanti and Cole Alexander among others.
But Chiefs' 2-0 humbling at the hands of Sundowns on Sunday, may have been a reminder that there still exists a substantial gap between the two sides.
"Chiefs are not bad but I just think defensively, Sundowns are stronger," former Sundowns midfielder Manqoba Ngwenya tells KickOff.com.
"Sundowns have a balanced team in both attack and defence.
"I still feel that Sundowns will dominate and that not much is going to change in terms of the title race."
Ngwenya detailed his reasons as to why Chiefs may struggle to end their chase for league honours.
"I think Chiefs are going to struggle to catch Sundowns but I think they could win a trophy this season.
"It's possible as they've got the quality with guys such as Keagan Dolly, who you can see the more he plays that he is a dangerous player and a quality player.
"So I think players like him and Billiat can make the difference for Chiefs. I think they will definitely be there at the top come the end of the season, but I think they will still fall short to Sundowns.
"Sundowns they still going to dominate every game they play, as usual, they've got guys that are scoring goals. They've got Shalulile, Erasmus, Mshishi, Sirino, so I think they've just got too much firepower."
