Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp has not taken kindly to the constant speculation over the future of star striker Khama Billiat.
Billiat has been the subject of widespread transfer speculation in recent weeks, with interest in his services both from abroad and within the PSL.
The Zimbabwean attacker’s absence against Highlands Park over the weekend, though Chiefs explained it as an injury precaution, further suggested that something could be going on behind the scenes after Pitso Mosimane also added fuel to the fire.
However, despite an earlier assertion that no one would be leaving the club at this late stage of the transfer window, Middendorp appeared irked upon again being questioned regarding the player’s future, as he directed media towards the club’s management.
“I don’t want to be part of this speculation. You go there in this moment and ask the management, who are aware about what his [Billiat] contract situation is,” said Middendorp.
“I think the player knows his contract situation, and for me there’s nothing to discuss.”
While the 28-year-old is undoubtedly an influential figure on his day, the German tactician further refused to discuss whether he – along with other key members in the squad – would be in the team for this weekend’s test against Black Leopards in Durban.
“Everybody is available for Kaizer Chiefs. Nkosi Ngcobo, Happy Mashiane, Khama Billiat, Rama Mphahlele, Itu Khune; everybody is available for Kaizer Chiefs,” he insisted.
“As for how far they are in the training process, I think that is something that we discuss internally and not in public.”
