Kaizer Chiefs have granted defender Erick Mathoho pardon from training as they continue preparations to resume the 2019/20 season this weekend.

Chiefs will be without Mathoho for the week following the passing of his sister on Sunday, the club has confirmed.

Amakhosi are currently gearing up towards the resumption of the Absa Premiership title race, where they hold a four-point advantage at the summit of the log table.

The PSL has set this coming weekend for the return of football, though SAFA is strongly opposed thereto as they feel the season can only resume on August 1.

The two bodies are set for a meeting on Monday, but PSL chairman Irvin Khoza has already called a media briefing for this afternoon at 12h00.

Most clubs only resumed group training last week, after nearly four months of isolation training due to the Covid-19 lockdown restrictions.

The Soweto outfit will be hoping for the extension until next month while they await the return of their towering centre-back from his family bereavement.

The 30-year-old Bafana Bafana star has been pivotal for coach Ernst Middendorp’s side this season, scoring four times and assisting in nine clean sheets in his 20 league appearances.
