Tinkler takes jab at 'shocking' Chiefs

Maritzburg United coach Eric Tinkler will not be expecting favours from any team on the final day on Saturday, and took a swipe at Kaizer Chiefs.

The Team of Choice are still sitting bottom of the log and travel to Limpopo to face Baroka FC in a must-win final match for them to survive automatic relegation.

After their victory against SuperSport United last Saturday, Tinkler made it clear he doesn't expect any favours from anyone and made an example of Chiefs, who have been struggling for form in league matches.

"We are going to Baroka FC to do the job and the guys we will be highly motivated going into the game. It won't be easy for us," Tinkler said.

"I've been saying anyone is beatable in this league. If you look at names on paper you would expect Chiefs to be a lot better but to be honest they've been very poor, shockingly poor. I expected them to lose against Free State Stars judging on their last five or six league matches."

Their match against Baroka will be like a final with both teams fighting for that survival spot. Tinkler says they will give it the same approach and play to win like they did against Black Leopards.

"We will go there to win, we know they will come at us with the same approach, we need to unite and everyone must be ready to fight. We won't be relying on anything, we need to go there and play without fear," he added.

"If we go there and win, maybe we get to the playoffs, which it something we don't want but we can take them. We are going there to fight for jobs, not only players but even backroom staff, their lives depend on our survival."

Maritzburg United to survive will have to win and hope Leopards, Chippa United and Free State Stars lose against Cape Town City, Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns. A draw could also save them depending on what happens in other games.
