Tinkler’s role in Brockie deal revealed

With just one goal scored in four Absa Premiership fixtures, Maritzburg United will be itching for new signing Jeremy Brockie to get onto the pitch and finally get their campaign going.

Brockie has joined the Team of Choice on a season-long loan deal from Mamelodi Sundowns, hoping to revive his career after a difficult spell with the 2016 CAF Champions League winners.

The New Zealand-born forward made a name for himself with the goals he scored while in the colours of SuperSport United and earned himself the nickname ‘Sniper’. A lot will be expected from him once he starts playing regularly.

“We needed a goal poacher. In the last two games, if you go through the stats, you will see that we’ve created 40 chances and we have not been able to score. So we needed a type of player that can put the ball in the back of the net and I think Jeremy will bring that to us. I think he’s record in South Africa is proven. When he plays he scores,” Jettoo said.

Maritzburg coach Eric Tinkler has previously worked with Brockie at SuperSport United, so it will be easy for the player to settle in while working under a coach he knows quite well.

“Eric had a discussion with Jeremy during the course of the day [on deadline day] and he was keen to come. Him and Eric having had a working relationship at SuperSport must have played a part in him wanting to come to Maritzburg."
