Ex-Bucs coach among 5 to replace Pitso?

Premiership

As Pitso Mosimane's contract extension remains unsigned, we look at five coaches across the world who could take over the reins at Mamelodi Sundowns.

While the whole world of football has come to a standstill due to the coronavirus outbreak, the future of Mosimane remains uncertain for next season.

Mosimane has said time and again that he wants to stay and has complied with the requirements for an extension to his contract, yet Sundowns management have remained silent on the topic.

However, what has kept The Brazilians management from meeting Mosimane halfway is a cause for concern until pen is put to paper.

One of those is Eric Tinkler, who this season has totally transformed Maritzburg United and should be in contention for the Absa Premiership Coach of the Season.

Tinkler saved the Team of Choice from relegation last year and took them to the Telkom Knockout final this season, where they lost against Sundowns.

Although he failed to win major silverware in his first full-time head coach position at Orlando Pirates, he led them to the CAF Confederation Cup final in 2015 and did the same with SuperSport United in 2017.

The former Bafana Bafana midfielder therefore knows his way around the pitfalls of competing in African club competitions, which is a requirement now for any new Sundowns coach.

After his Pirates spell he also went on to win the 2016 Telkom Knockout with Cape Town City before leaving to join Matsatsantsa, where he won the 2017 MTN8. He also had a stint at Chippa United.

It might be time for Tinkler to take another big test in the PSL and fulfil his coaching potential by continuing where Mosimane leaves off, should the 2016 CAF Coach of the Year part ways.

Tinkler's contract with Maritzburg is set to expire at the end of next season but contains a buyout clause.
