Swallows extend winless run to 10 games

Premiership

Swallows' struggles in the DStv Premiership continued after falling to a 1-0 loss at the hands of TS Galaxy on Sunday afternoon.

The Rockets recalled Pogiso Sanoka and Mxolisi Macuphu alongside a first start for Sphiwe Mahlangu while the Birds range the changes, with the likes of Lebohang Mokoena, Musa Nyatama and Monnapule Saleng brought back.

Mokoena had a glorious chance to give the visitors a perfect start in the second minute after going through on goal inside the box but he fired his strike over the bar.

However, the Rockets were clinical with their first attack as Mahlangu gave them the lead five minutes later with a curling strike into the bottom corner after cutting inside the box.

Swallows were exposed at the back in a rush to get back into the game and Macuphu had a wonderful chance to double the lead for Sead Ramovic's charges just before the half-time break after he got a cut-back unmarked at the near post but he looped his shot over the bar.

The game continued to open up early in the second stanza and Macuphu came close to making it 2-0 for Galaxy just after the hour-mark with an overhead kick inside the box that produced an acrobatic save from Jody Jody February.

Brandon Truter made a double attacking change after that as Keletso Makgalwa replaced Saleng and Khetukuthula Ndlovu came on for Dillon Solomons.

The changes had an immediate impact, as Ndlovu went through on goal in the 67th minute but his low strike could not beat goalkeeper Vasilije Kolak in a one-on-one and Kolak also denied Makgalwa 15 minutes before time from point-blank range.

Swallows were pressurising Galaxy in the dying minutes and vulnerable on counter-attacks but nothing came out from the goal-rush and the Rockets held on to leapfrog the Birds in 14th place.
