New Galaxy coach off to losing start

Premiership

TS Galaxy began life under new coach Sead Ramovic with a 1-0 defeat to AmaZulu in the DStv Premiership on Tuesday evening.

In pursuit of their first win, Galaxy called on goalkeeper Vasilije Kolak and had Mxolisi Macuphu leading their front-three. Whereas Usuthu issued Augustine Mulenga his maiden start this season.

Mulenga was prevented a welcome return 11 minutes on the clock when he had a shot from a tight angle come off the post after the Rockets battled to deal with a high ball in the area.

Galaxy began to find their own after an indifferent start and carved a chance before the half-hour mark from Macuphu’s snap-shot on the edge of the area following a string of passes.

The brightest opportunity fell the way of Usuthu when Siyethemba Sithebe got out on the right-side to whip in a ball for an unmarked Siphelele Mthembu to profit, but he missed target.

AmaZulu pulled out two substitutions ahead of the second half in Samkelo Mgwazela for Sandile Khumalo and Bonginkosi Ntuli hauled in the place of Mthembu.

This sort of initiative from Usuthu saw the opener ten minutes from the break when Tercious Malepe ran up the field to play a long pass for Luvuyo Memela to curl into the top corner.

Galaxy looked to go back all square in the middle of the second period through Tshegofatso Nyama’s cross-cum shot, but it flashed the woodwork with the rebound cleared off the line.

The Rockets situation and plight to go level were dented as Pogiso Sanoka got a red card for a second bookable offence within the remaining 20 minutes of the clash.

Usuthu used their advantage to good effect amidst Ntuli volleying a loose pass wide, as a 1-0 score saw Galaxy give Ramovic a losing start.
