A brace from Bernard Parker helped Kaizer Chiefs to a 2-1 win over SuperSport United in the DStv Premiership on Sunday evening.
Anthony Akumu Agay got his first start of the season as Chiefs welcomed back Sifiso Hlanti from suspension while United went for Thamsanqa Gabuza and Ghampani Lungu in attack.
Chiefs had a chance to go in the lead closer to the midway point when a diagonal pass from Keagan Dolly picked out Bernard Parker, whose first-time shot drew a save from Ronwen Williams.
At the other end, SuperSport also missed out on the front foot after a low snap shot by Lungu off a scramble in the area ricochet narrowly beyond the goal of Daniel Akpeyi.
Chiefs took the lead against the run of play when Parker ran onto a ball in behind by Dolly in added time to fire underneath the arms of Williams.
However, it didn’t last long as SuperSport levelled after Gabuza rose onto Sipho Mbule’s cross to head into the far corner.
The Amakhosi reclaimed the lead as soon as the second half started when Parker ran onto a loose pass to go on and beat Williams with another close-range finish.
Just as the initial breakthrough, Matsatsantsa looked for an immediate response with a shot from range by Teboho Mokoena but he missed target.
An injury following the last 12 minutes saw Parker removed and Kearyn Baccus handed a rare appearance, whilst Luke Fleurs came close to draw United level with a succession of headers.
Chiefs should’ve bagged a third goal in the last seconds before time, but Phathutshedzo Nange slammed a ball across the area wide as Parker's two goals were enough to secure the spoils on the day.
