Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila managed to secure a point at Mamelodi Sundowns in the DStv Premiership on Wednesday night.
Masandawana had just a single change from the opening day win over Kaizer Chiefs, as Sphelele Mkhulise replaced Kermit Erasmus whilst Justin Shonga made his first start for the visitors.
Shonga almost made his presence felt in the earlier minutes following an exchange of passes near the area with Meshack Maphangule, but Sundowns goalkeeper Denis Onyango parried.
Sundowns regrouped and threatened the opener towards 15 minutes when Hlompho Kekana robbed Alfred Ndengane off possession before cracking the crossbar from a thumping shot.
The Brazilians’ dominance continued before the final stage of the first half, as Mkhulise drew a smart reaction save from Tshakhuma goalkeeper Washington Arubi from a tight angle.
Peter Shalulile was given a glorious chance to break the deadlock three minutes before halftime after peeling onto a through ball from Lyle Lakay, but couldn’t beat Arubi.
Sundowns started the second half just as the first with a darting run towards the area from the right-side by Thapelo Morena leaving their counterparts in their wake.
Masandawana lived nervously towards 60 minutes as Tshakhuma found Mogakolodi Ngele with a clear sight to goal, but a timeous clearance from Motjeka Madisha saved the day.
It wasn’t over for the Brazilians after Diamond Thopola opened space from the right minutes later to unleash a low cross-cum shot, but the attempt drifted past the far corner of Onyango’s goal.
Tebogo Langerman was given his first run out of the season by the home side on 68 minutes after replacing Lakay in a like-for-like change.
Despite a succession of late openings from either side, the match finished goalless with Tshakhuma still searching for their first win of the season.
