Chiefs held by unbeaten Arrows

Premiership

Kaizer Chiefs failed to secure maximum points for the second straight DStv Premiership encounter after drawing 2-2 with Golden Arrows.

Itumeleng Khune made his second start of the season in goal with Daniel Akpeyi dropped as Eric Mathoho’s suspension paved the return of Siyabonga Ngezana.

Arrows posed a few problems straight from the start with a clear opening from point-blank range going the way of Michael Gumede, who blazed over the top.

Abafana Besthende had another chance right on the cusp of the six-yard area midway through the first half, but Siboniso Conco went wide of the top corner after shooting on the turn.

The Amakhosi sprung to life and launched their first threat ten minutes to halftime when Leonardo Castro headed off the top of the woodwork from a cross by Philani Zulu.

Arrows were on the back-foot following the closing minutes of the first half with a rasping shot from the right by Ramahlwe Mphahlele bringing the best out of Sifiso Mlungwana.

Mlungwana was brought to action again after moving off his goal-line to smother Castro from point-blank range as the half concluded.

Abafana Besthende gained control right from start of the second half when Siboniso Conco sent Khune the wrong way from the penalty spot after Zolani Nkombela went crashing from Willard Katsande’s challenge.

Chiefs didn’t sit back after falling behind and came up with the perfect response when Castro powered over the defence on 58 minutes to head into the near corner from Khama Biliat's corner.

The Amakhosi took full ascendancy on 65 minutes when Billiat beat the offside trap to play in Castro, who tapped into an empty net.

Abafana Besthende drew level five minutes later as a back-heel from Mutizwa allowed an on-rushing Sibiya to fire in off the left-hand post.

Chiefs gave MultiChoice Diski Challenge graduate Darrel Matsheke a debut in the last eight minutes, as both sides went at each other for the winner but in the end settled for a draw.
