Ntuli rescues a point for winless Usuthu

Premiership

The KwaZulu-Natal derby did produce the goods as Golden Arrows and AmaZulu played to an entertaining 2-2 draw in the DStv Premiership on Wednesday afternoon.

The host handed Bafana Bafana call-up Thabani Zuke a start and recalled Knox Mutizwa from the draw with TS Galaxy, as Usuthu rewarded Bonginkosi Ntuli for his exploits in Blantyre.

Usuthu struck first from a corner-kick by Sphesihle Maduna midway in the first half, which Xola Mlambo got at the end of to profit Usuthu’s first Premiership goal.

Although their joy was short-lived on the half-hour mark after Arrows pulled level from the penalty-spot courtesy of Mutizwa following a hand ball in the area by Tsepo Masilela.

Abafana Besthende were awarded another penalty six minutes from halftime as Nkosinathi Sibisi went down in the area, but Mutizwa wasn’t able to profit on this occasion as he struck the post.

The host start to the second half saw Moleko withdrawn and Mbongeni Gumede introduced, while Abafana Besthende decided to make no substitutions.

Usuthu were provided with a bit of defending soon from the break with Mthokozisi Dube going close with a long-range strike before Mlungwana smothered a powerful free-kick from Maduna.

Abafana Besthende turned up the heat again in the middle of the second period with a speculative strike on the edge of the area by Sbonelo Cele bringing a save out of goalkeeper Veli Mothwa.

Their attempts weren’t in vain as with 15 minutes to go, Matome Mathiane headed home from a well-taken corner which Usuthu failed to manage.

However, Usuthu replied in the space of minutes through a penalty  of their own from Ntuli following a foul in the danger area.

Arrows could’ve gone ahead again from a free-kick seconds from letting the lead slip, but was smothered by Mothwa thus saw the spoils shared.
