SuperSport United missed out on a third successive win in the DStv Premiership following a goalless draw against Chippa United on Saturday afternoon.
SuperSport named Luke Fleurs in their starting eleven following his suspension, whereas Chippa dropped Kurt Lentjies from the loss against Stellenbosch FC and recalled Bienvenu Eva Nga.
Matsatsantsa looked to shade a congested opening spell with a ball from the left-side by Iqraam Rayners targeting Thamsanqa Gabuza, who couldn’t get on the end of the delivery.
Cameroonian Eva Nga nearly put Chippa ahead against the run of play a little before the half-hour mark through a flick on from a ball out wide, but at the end dragged wide.
The Chilli Boys orchestrated another threat from a counter-attack minutes before the break, but Thabiso Lebitso’s attempt was smothered by Ronwen Williams.
Matsatsantsa’s start to the second period followed a substitution, as Sipho Mbule came on to replace Moses Waiswa.
SuperSport were renewed by the introduction and came very close to taking the lead 12 minutes into the restart when Teboho Mokoena’s well-taken free-kick struck the post.
The former was at the heart of another move for the visitors in the middle of the second period after his probing ball picked Ghampani Lungu, who after rounding the defence had his effort smothered.
Matsatsantsa should’ve secured victory from the penalty-spot in the last ten minutes, but Mbule fired wide after Mokoena was fouled in the area.
The Tshwane side continued to battle it out in the closing periods, but goalless was the final score in Mdantsane.
